Visual storytelling has always captivated me—its ability to convey emotion and narrative without words felt like magic. At 12, I received my first camera, a Canon SLR, and dreamed of becoming a National Geographic photographer. Though my ambitions shifted, my passion for photography never faded, shaping my high school and college years through yearbook and publication work. A brief stint in photojournalism unexpectedly led me to my partner, Ruwan, as we bonded over our shared love for capturing moments. Over the years, we balanced photography with other careers, occasionally taking on commissioned shoots. In 2025, we turned our passion into Ruwan and Diana Photography, stepping into the adventure of running a business together.

Photography found me by chance—a Canon Rebel G at a pawn shop during my freshman year of community college sparked an unexpected passion. Growing up in Sri Lanka, slide film felt natural, reminiscent of family slide shows projected onto bedsheets. My love for exploration led me to study Environmental Science, thinking I’d share the world through knowledge and images. Teaching in Micronesia turned into a 15-year career as a middle school science teacher, but the call of photography never faded. In January 2025, my partner Diana and I launched Ruwan and Diana Photography, diving headfirst into the business world. Now, I invite you to join the adventure—let’s capture the moments that matter.

FAQ’s
-
As many as it takes! We keep snapping until we are both confident that there are plenty of quality photographs to choose from. We average about 50-100 photos in a one look session.
-
For our headshot clients: At the end of your session, we'll preview the images and you can choose your favorites. These will be sent to our retoucher for final processing, and you'll receive your images within a week or less.
For portrait sessions: After your photoshoot, we'll schedule a time for you to come to the studio and preview your images. During this session, you'll select your favorite images and decide how you'd like to display them in your home. The images you choose will then be sent to our retoucher for final processing and then on to production to create your heirloom products. We'll contact you approximately 7-10 business days after this to arrange pickup or delivery of your order.

Yes, while we focus on creating images that show you in the best possible way at the photoshoot, sometimes a stray hair or a spot of lint may not be worth breaking the flow of the shoot to address at the moment. For this reason we have a wonderful retoucher, Ali, with over 15 years in the industry who meticulously goes through each of the images you select and makes sure you look your best. We also work with Ali, our retoucher, because of her skill in making the images look natural and not look retouched.
-
No, we do not provide the RAW files as these are not finished to our standards. You would not go to a world class restaurant and ask the chef to just put all the ingredients in a bag to be cooked at home because cooking the ingredients is part of the process. We aim to provide you with a finished product.
-
Absolutely! When you come to the studio for the gallery reveal you will get to decide which images you want to keep and how they will be produced. Each of the portrait packages have a print credit included. If you wish to purchase additional products you may do so at this time.
-
Yes! We’ll coach you into lots of different smiles and poses so you have plenty of options to choose from.
-
After you have booked your session, we will schedule one or more followup meetings to help you choose your wardrobe. This can be done via email where you send us images of outfits you already have or are thinking of getting, a zoom call where we can give you some live feedback, or even just bringing them to the studio and having an outfit consultation all before your photoshoot day. We want to make sure the outfit you choose not only makes you feel confident and brings out your personality, but also compliments your figure and will photograph well.

The photoshoot is a collaborative process. We are going to work with you to make sure that you are happy with what is being created. During the shoot we encourage you to throw out ideas as well so that we can capture your authentic self.
